Building the Ultimate RCM Machine: Powered by People, Fueled by Tech, Grounded in Process

2

As March winds down, we’re wrapping up this month’s theme—Talent & Tech in Revenue Cycle Management, with a powerful realization: RCM excellence isn’t about fixing one part of the cycle. It’s about building a machine. A system. One that’s high-performing, future-proof, and built on a rock-solid foundation.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve unpacked the value of aligning talent and technology, explored innovation with RCM tech expert Mark Dorner, and took a closer look at how to recruit the right people to thrive in this fast-evolving space.

But the truth is, none of these things stand alone. They’re all part of a bigger picture. And that picture is coming into focus here at Claims Theory in the form of our Three Pillars of a High-Performing RCM Machine:

1. People: The Power Source

Skilled, adaptable, and accountable teams are at the core of RCM performance. You can’t automate your way out of bad leadership or poor communication. The best technology in the world won’t solve all of your problems. The right people—well-trained, well-supported, and aligned with your mission—are the power source behind every successful RCM operation.

2. Technology: The Accelerator

When used well, technology doesn’t replace people—it multiplies their impact. From automation to AI, predictive analytics to workflow integration, tech should make the work faster, smarter, and cleaner. But implementation without intention can slow you down. Tech is only an accelerator when it’s embedded into a smart process and operated by skilled people.

3. Process: The Foundation

You can’t scale chaos. That’s why process is the quiet backbone of any RCM machine. Whether it’s clean claim submission, denial management, or patient communication, well-defined workflows and clear ownership create consistency. Process doesn’t mean rigidity. It means stability that allows your people and tech to do what they do best.

This month, we’ve seen that it’s not about choosing between talent or tech, it’s about building an RCM system where the people, tools, and workflows work in harmony.

That’s the Claims Theory way:

• Lead with clarity

• Build with intention

• Measure what matters

• And evolve as you grow

We’re just getting started.

Coming in April: A new theme, new conversations, and more real talk on what it takes to run a world-class revenue cycle.
